FARMER FRIDAY + GIVEAWAY (2) – Alpaca Fun Facts

If you’ve been following my social media, you’ll have seen photos of the JLA farm and our Anipals.

This week I wanted to share some photos and fun facts about our Alpacas (not to be confused with Llamas)!

ALPACA FUN FACTS:

• Alpacas often sleep in a star formation, so they are looking in every direction
• They do not like to be petted or hugged, but once they trust you, they will sometimes let you scratch their necks
• Alpacas can spit but mostly spit at one another when one is trying to eat their food. Neither Mike or I have been spit at yet
• Speaking of spit, they will warn you a few times before doing it. First is a noise that is not a hum, then they give you a look. They will do a warning spit which is just air and then they spit
• Alpacas are like cats while llamas are like dogs
• they like carrots and apples as treats
• Alpacas hum
• They have amazing eyesight and are fast runners – running faster than zebras, spotted hyenas, and tigers.
• They will guard smaller animals, but llamas are the true guard
