Thankful Thursday: Bookstagram Love + GIVEAWAY! (14)

June 4, 2020

It’s THANKFUL THURSDAY!

I love seeing your posts, comments, photos, and memes online, so I wanted to give a weekly shout-out as a THANK YOU!

It’s time for some #Bookstagram spotlights of some of the posts that I’ve seen (and loved) recently!

This week’s theme: DIVERSIFY YOUR FEED!

My friend Steph made this post (below) on her Instagram page to try to help shine a light on BIPOC Bookstagrammers, and I wanted to share the message with everyone, too.

Check out the posts below and consider giving each of them a follow on IG. 🙂 Oh, and don’t forget to enter the giveaway at the bottom of this post, too!

Hi there. I know that it may seem like an overload of posts and info right now, and it’s a lot of information to take in all at once. I’ve been sharing A TON in my Instagram stories, and with them displaying for mere seconds at a time, I am sure things get missed/forgotten. That being said, I’ve been archiving ALL THE THINGS in categories via highlights on my profile. Swipe on the images of this post to see what info I have available to you (with more to come), which you’re free to share. As this account was created to mainly focus on my bookish content, I implore all of you to look at my “BIPOC IG” highlight, which features the accounts of BIPOC #Bookstagrammers that I encourage you to follow. At the very least, visit their profiles and scroll through their posts so that their content gets the visibility they deserve. We need to diversify the bookstagram/booktube/influencer community far more than it is now. And I’m calling upon my fellow bookstagrammers, readers, and book-pushers to TRY HARDER, and DO BETTER. #WeNeedDiverseBooks was (and still is) an amazing movement, and if it isn’t already, a #WeNeedDiverseBookstagrammers should be too. I will continue to dedicate my time and energy to give a signal boost to any diverse bibliophiles who need it, so feel free to tag them in the comments and I’ll add them to my list. *Active accounts preferred please! And to my fellow BIPOC and allies, keep putting in work. Black Lives Matter. #diversebookstagram #diversifybookstagram #amplifymelanatedvoices

Happy #WorldBookDay! This is another oldie but this is how happy books make me feel 💕. —————————— My love of reading started when I was a preteen with the Nancy Drew mystery books. By the time I hit 13 I was obsessed with Meg Cabot’s writing. I don’t know what happened between ages 16-18, I don’t recall reading a single book 💀. At 19, I read The Fault in Our Stars, experienced my first book hangover and my YA obsession began. ————————————— Since then I’ve grown to love such a wide genre of books. Memoirs, short essay collections and historical fiction have become huge favourites of mine. All this to say, I’m just really freaking happy that books exist 😭💕. // Which book ignited or re-ignited your love for reading?

kacen callender: mirror, mirror on the wall. who has the prettiest cover of them all? 💐💐 mirror: you do, kacen. you do. 💐💐 it’s a gloomy day today, but at least i got some bright and beautiful book mail. what a cover! (i might have to move around my TBR) 💐💐 synopsis: Felix Love has never been in love—and, yes, he’s painfully aware of the irony. He desperately wants to know what it’s like and why it seems so easy for everyone but him to find someone. What’s worse is that, even though he is proud of his identity, Felix also secretly fears that he’s one marginalization too many—Black, queer, and transgender—to ever get his own happily-ever-after. When an anonymous student begins sending him transphobic messages—after publicly posting Felix’s deadname alongside images of him before he transitioned—Felix comes up with a plan for revenge. What he didn’t count on: his catfish scenario landing him in a quasi–love triangle…. But as he navigates his complicated feelings, Felix begins a journey of questioning and self-discovery that helps redefine his most important relationship: how he feels about himself. . . . . . #lgbt #felixeverafter #kacencallender #coverlust #transcharacter #blacktranslivesmatter #ireadya . . . . . . . . . #bookstagram #bookish #booklover #bibliophile #booknerd #instareads #reading #bookgeek #bookaddict #bookworm #bookpic #bookstagrammer #bookstack #blogger #reader #bookcommunity #asocialcris #booksofig

“What Chloe actually did to cope was take her medication religiously, write fanciful lists, play The Sims, and live through it. Sometimes it was hard, but she managed by whatever means necessary.”⠀ ⠀ I’m not typically one to save quotes in a book, but I saved this. Chloe was such a relatable character. She’s a plus sized black woman dealing with invisible chronic illness. ⠀ ⠀ I loved Chloe as a character, and I’m sure it’s because we share so many similarities. Dealing with health issues that are invisible to the average person can feel isolating.⠀ ⠀ Needless to say, both of us really enjoyed this book and we want to share it! ✨ Here’s how to win it:⠀ ⠀ 1. Make sure you’re following us. 😊⠀ 2. Like this photo. ❤️ ⠀ 3. Tell us about a goal you’re excited about for 2020. 📝⠀ ⠀ A winner will be chosen to receive a paperback copy of Get a life, Chloe Brown. This is also open to international followers as long as Book Depository ships to your country.⠀ ⠀ Giveaway closes Friday, December 20th at 9 PM.⠀ ⠀ *This giveaway is not associated with the instagram, or the author of this book. You must be 18 to enter or have permission from a guardian. You must be willing to share your address to receive the prize.⠀ ⠀ -Jasmine 💜⠀ (Giveaway closed congratulations @sarahandherbookshelves and @laurensbookstagram 🎉💜)

❝Stories Matter. Many stories matter. Stories have been used to disposses and to malign, but stories can also be used to empower and to humanize.❞ – Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie ⁣ •⁣ •⁣ Happy Thursday Bookwyrms 📚🐉 I showcased some of these books in my stories yesterday. After being asked by a few people for recommendations, I decided to share a stack of a fraction of the books that I love and have enjoyed over the years. ⁣ ⁣ I love reading Memoirs, Anthologies, Young Adult Contemporary and Fantasy as well as Contemporary Romance and just plain old Romance. ⁣ ⁣ Anti-racist and Non-Fiction books are extremely important in black literature as well. And I encourage you to check out of all the lists, and to read these books. Not just because of what’s going on currently, but because our stories have always mattered!⁣ ⁣ If you like and enjoy YA Contemporary or Contemporary Romance , I recommend checking out my friend @contemporarily_yours! She gives great reviews and recommendations !! ⁣ •⁣ •⁣ •⁣ ⁣ #bibliophile #bookworm #bookaholic #bookdragon #blackbookstagram #bookstababesx3 #booklover #booksparks #bookcommunity #bookblogger #bookwyrm #bookgram #kim📚🐉 #instabooks #bookstagrammer #bookstoread
